It’s been a while since I’ve had the time to sit down and write an editorial piece for this site.
Firstly, I hope you like the redesign. Scrubbing up the site and giving it a more modern look is something that’s been on the cards for a while now. Whilst the old green tinged site did the job, I wanted the site to at least look professional, even if my thoughts and rants weren’t.
It’s been a weird few months with lots of games to look at, especially since I picked up a shiny PS4. The most awesome thing to happen was my last-minute trip to E3 in LA.
I’d been meaning to make the pilgrimage to the world’s number one video gaming event for years. Moving home, moving counties and having kids always seemed to block my plans for the trip.
But this year, and with only weeks to spare, it all fell into place.
It was a mad rush that started three weeks before the show and didn’t stop until a week after.
I got to try out a host of upcoming titles and I was genuinely blown away by the quality of the graphics in the games on show. It seems that the new generation of console hardware has really enabled developers to unleash their creativity.
Whilst it was great to see the level of immersion that the likes of Alien: Isolation and Assassin’s Creed: Unity is going to offer us, it was also great to see the likes of No Mans Sky and Elite: Dangerous giving us a whole universe to explore.
This may have been a bit of a slow year for the new-gen consoles, so far, but we’ve a hell of a time ahead of us with the likes of Destiny, Evolve and Sunset Overdrive almost upon us.
Locally we’ve got both the fantastic EB Expo in Sydney from October 3rd to the 5th and PAX Australia down in Melbourne from October 21 to the 2nd November. With two great shows and a host of triple A games coming our way it’s never been a better time to be a gamer in this part of the world.
One of the downsides of attending E3 was just how behind I got with my reviews and articles. If you are a regular on the Game Console pages of New Zealand’s Techday.com or the Australasian specialist gaming site Shanethgamer.com, you will have seen a continuous stream of articles covering everything from and Russian off-road truck simulator to changing the thumbsticks on an Xbox 360 controller, some of which have been reproduced here.
I’m currently working through a backlog of fourteen gaming articles, so be sure to keep an eye out on Techday.com, Shanethegamer.com and of course on this site.
