Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris PlayStation 4 review

Lara Croft is back with another adventure in Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, the sequel to 2010’s top-down arcade shooter/puzzler Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.

The absence of “Tomb Raider” in the title is what separates Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris from the recently rebooted Tomb Raider franchise. Indeed, having Lara dressed in her old trademark blue top and shorts, as well as being voiced by Keeley Hawks – who also voiced Lara in Tomb Raider Legend, Underworld and Anniversary – would suggest that this is your dad’s older, more experienced Lara Croft. Pro Evolution Soccer 2015 PC review

Does Konami’s latest entry in their long-running Pro Evolution Soccer series offer players a viable footballing alternative to EA’s FIFA series?

I can’t think of a more soul-destroying game development job than working on a PES game. The knowledge that no matter what you do, no matter how good your game is, it’s never going to beat EA’s latest FIFA entry when it comes to exposure or sales. DIY: Double both your PS4 and Xbox One storage space for just over AU$100

So you’ve had your Xbox One and/or PlayStation 4 for just over a year now. Whilst their respective game catalogues are not huge by any stretch of the imagination. There’s still enough out there to fill up the rather paltry 500GB hard drives that both Sony and Microsoft decided to ship in their respective consoles.

If you have moderately large gaming budget or, like me, you review a lot of games your console hard drive(s) may be starting to bulge a bit with all those games installed on them. Continue reading DIY: Double both your PS4 and Xbox One storage space for just over AU$100

Tesoro Excalibur G7NL mechanical gaming keyboard review

Tesoro may not be a name that you recognise, but since 2011 they have been manufacturing computer peripherals designed with the gamer in mind.

They produce a range of performance headsets, mice, mouse pads and keyboards. As any serious PC gamer knows, using decent kit can give you the edge over your opponents in competitive matches.

Now, I’m no eSportman, but I do know that swapping out my mouse a year ago for an 8200dpi Razer Synapse made all the difference when it came to Battlefield 4. I never thought to swap out my keyboard. Continue reading Tesoro Excalibur G7NL mechanical gaming keyboard review

Elite: Dangerous launches without a hitch

Late Tuesday night, Sydney time, saw the launch of Elite: Dangerous, the crowd-funded sequel to the classic space trading action game.

Unlike recent efforts from some more well-heeled publishers, Frontier Developments’ launch went without fault, my pre-release gamma 2 version of the game seamlessly updating to the 1.0 retail release as the servers switched over.

Elite: Dangerous is the fourth in the Elite series of games, following on from the seminal 1984 Elite, developed by David Braben and Ian Bell, 1993’s Frontier: Elite 2, and 1995’s Frontier: First Encounters. Continue reading Elite: Dangerous launches without a hitch

The Crew PlayStation 4 review

Never in the history of video games have racing fans been gifted such an enormous playground as they have in Ubisoft’s The Crew.

With the open road ahead of them players can push the pedal to the metal and embark on a road trip from the east coast of the United States to the west in an epic journey that’ll likely take an hour or more to complete.

The world of The Crew is a vast and rather impressive achievement. To pack the entire United States into a game console (albeit scaled down somewhat) and without any loading times is rather special.

Rabbids Invasion: The Interactive TV Show Xbox One review

Rabbids Invasion is series of animated shorts produced by Ubisoft in association with Nickelodeon. The cartoons are based on Ubisoft’s Raving Rabbids video games, themselves a spin-off from the classic Rayman franchise.

The Rabbids, themselves are basically foot-high stylised rabbit-like creatures that stand on two legs. They don’t speak English, they just utter words in their own language, including their trademark “bwahh”. Instead they communicate with the audience via expressions- which the animators skilfully use to instil some amusing, but at the same time darkly comical and sometimes vicious, personalities. The Crew hands-on preview

It’s been a challenging few weeks for Ubisoft, with the less-than gracious launch of Assassin’s Creed: Unity casting a bit of a shadow over things. The busy publisher’s next release is now upon us: The Crew– an online racer with RPG aspirations.

I say busy because, whilst the French publisher has been hitting the headlines pretty continuously regarding the latest Assassin’s Creed: Unity bug reports, they’ve released an outstanding amount of other games without a hitch. Continue reading The Crew hands-on preview
