One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 PS4 review

The best-selling manga and anime sensation get its first new-gen game with One Piece Pirate Warriors 3.

I’ll be honest right now and say that I didn’t immediately put my hand up to review this one. Whilst I’m a great fan of manga and anime, Japanese manga-based games are most definitely an acquired taste.

Featuring over the top characters, manga tales often feature bizarre stories that are hard enough to follow on the printed page, let alone punctuating often equally weird gameplay. Peculiar dialogue and jokes that get lost in translation can make for a rather unique and quirky gaming experience. Continue reading One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 PS4 review

It’s Madden season: Madden NFL 16 review

Madden NFL 16 is EA Sports’ second game released for the 2016 season, following the Frostbite Engine-driven Rory McIlroy PGA Tour.

For this year’s Madden we are back with EA’s proprietary game engine, Ignite, for what is the best-looking sports game I’ve ever played. If the visuals in Madden are anything to go by sports fans have a lot to look forward to with this year’s FIFA, NHL and NBA Live games.

Whilst we would all like to see the release of a decent rugby game, let’s face it, it’s unlikely to happen anytime soon. In the meantime the Madden NFL series is the closest that you are going to get. Continue reading It’s Madden season: Madden NFL 16 review

Nyko PlayStation 4 Data Bank review

In an attempt to find a solution to my ongoing PlayStation 4 storage problems, I decided to try out one of Nyko’s PS4 Data Bank 3.5” hard drive enclosures.

Unfortunately, there’s no such thing as having too much data storage, ask any PC gamer. Unfortunately nobody told this to Sony or Microsoft, two companies that should have known better when they saw fit to stuff a paltry 500GB hard drive in their new consoles.

This extremely short-sighted action will have ramifications for gamers for the life of this generation of game consoles. Continue reading Nyko PlayStation 4 Data Bank review

Everyone’s Gone to the Rapture PlayStation 4 review

Everyone’s Gone to the Rapture is a daring endeavour, a collaboration between British indie developer The Chinese Room and Sony’s San Diego Studios.

Set in a leafy English village, the game tells a post-apocalyptic story like none other. It’s actually less of a game and more of an interactive narrative told though the media of a video game engine. And it’s not going to be for everyone. Rory McIlroy PGA Tour PlayStation 4 review

After a two-year break PGA Tour is back, minus Tiger Woods and, curiously, minus the 2015 suffix. Rory McIlroy PGA Tour sees the Irish golfing number one take his place as the game’s new title athlete.

For this first new-gen PGA Tour the game rebuilt from scratch using Battlefield 4’s veteran Frostbite engine. This is great news as past installments always seemed to be behind the times when it comes to graphical realism, despite improvements to the actual game mechanics. This outing gives us some of the most realistic visuals ever seen in a golf game. Continue reading Rory McIlroy PGA Tour PlayStation 4 review
