As Hollywood’s imagination vacuum shows no sign of abating, it’s time to dust of another former hit television franchise and give it another shot.
TNT have recently announced that they have ordered 10 episodes of a new Dallas TV show. The original show ran from 1978 to 1991. Dallas made household names of stars Larry Hagman, as the scheming J.R. Ewing, and Patrick Duffy, his comparatively mild-mannered younger brother, Bobby. The last time we saw the Ewings was in the 1998 TV movie, War of the Ewings.
The original show was renown for its 1980 “Who shot J.R.?” cliffhanger season finale. Six years later, Dallas caused another stir with the infamous ret-coning of the whole of season eight, when Pam Ewing wakes up and the death of her husband and the whole years episode were revealed as just being a dream!
Whilst the new show features original cast members, Larry Hangman, Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray (reprising her role as the long-suffering Sue Ellen), the story actually focuses on J.R.’s son John Ross Ewing III and Bobby’s adopted son, Christopher Ewing. Expect plenty of love triangles, back stabbing and corporate skullduggery.
