Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 3 review

The Lenovo Legion Tab (TB321FU) is an 8.8” Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 tablet primarily marketed for gaming. We were sent the eclipse black version to test.

Out of the box, the first thing that I noticed was just how nice it feels. The bevelled edges make it look classy, but with the “Legion” logo on the black, it reminds us, as stylish as it is, that this is supposed to be a gaming device.

The alloy case feels robust, weighing 0.35 kg and measuring 208.54 x 129.46 x 7.79 mm. It’s a petite device, but big enough to replace your phone without needing a separate bag. The size is about right for a modern tablet, I’d say.

Switching it on, you get all the usual Android onboarding faff as you marvel at the sharp display. The LTPS touch screen boasts a resolution of 2560 x 1600 with a 165Hz refresh rate. The tablet runs on Android 15 with Lenovo’s ZUI interface.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Processor runs at 3.30 GHz and is complemented with an integrated Qualcomm Adreno GPU. There’s 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of flash storage space. There’s no slot for an SD Card storage expansion or a SIM card.\

There are two USB Type-C sockets. One is USB 2.0 with charging and audio, and the other is USB 3.2 Gen with charging, DisplayPort output and audio.

The 6550mAh Li-Po battery will give you around 16-18 hours of everyday use. You can expect less if you are playing processor-intensive games. The package comes complete with both a USB Type-C charge cable and a region-specific plug.

Audio is provided via  2x 2712 superliner speakers with Dolby Atmos. Sound reproduction is crisp, and the volume can be turned up quite loud.

As an Android tablet, it’s going to have absolutely no problem running any game in the Google Play Store. Running the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme benchmark, the tablet scored 4906, placing the device in the top 91% of tested devices. The Steel Nomad Light benchmark yielded a result of 1689, putting it in the top 61% of all devices tested, which would include laptops and other portable devices.

Xbox Cloud Streaming worked really well. As an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, I could log onto the Xbox Cloud Streaming website and play over 400 games streamed to the Legion Tab. I had a quick go on GTA V, which has just returned to the service.

I needed to link my Xbox Controller with the tablet, the easiest way being via a USB Type-C cable, but you can also pair a controller via Bluetooth. What didn’t work was my Backbone phone controller, which just wasn’t big enough to stretch around the tablet.

The tablet can be used for all your usual mobile office tasks like email, Word and Excel. The screen being slightly larger than a phone means that reading emails, typing documents and sorting out spreadsheets is a lot easier on the tablet, rather than on your phone.

Another great use I found was in reading digital comic books. Readers from Dark House, Marvel and Amazon’s Kindle app enabled me to enjoy comics in vivid colour thanks to the tablet’s fantastic display.

The tablet makes a great media player, with the likes of Netflix, Paramount Plus and YouTube all working great and looking fantastic on the screen. Again, the size of the screen provides a good balance of size and portability.

The front and rear cameras can capture video up to 1080p and 30 frames per second, with the rear camera taking photos at 13MP and the from 8MP. There are HDR and AI enhancement settings to make the images pop. They are good cameras. The reasonably-sized screen also makes editing photos a lot easier with the likes of Photoshop Express.

The Lenovo Legion Tab is a superb tablet. It looks nice. It feels nice. The screen is great, and under the hood, it’s a very powerful mobile device.  It’ll have no problem playing any Android game that you throw at it. It’s also perfect for Xbox Cloud Gaming. There are larger tablets out there, but the 8.8” size of the Lenovo Legion Tab screen is a great compromise with high fidelity visuals and practical portability.
