Need for Speed PlayStation 4 Review

For Ghost Studios’ second crack at EA Games’ racing franchise, and the first new-gen console/PC-only version, they have dropped the subtitle and just stuck with Need for Speed. But is this a new beginning for the series?

The new-gen console duet of Xbox One and PlayStation 4 has been the catalyst for overhauling and/or rebooting a fair few franchises. I think that’s what EA are aiming for with release of their veteran series. Continue reading Need for Speed PlayStation 4 Review

Sandbox mayhem: Just Cause 3 preview

In the week before PAX Australia I was invited to an exclusive look at Just Cause 3 at Square Enix’s Sydney office. Hosting the session was Avalanche Studios’ game director Roland Lesterlin and producer Omar Shakir.

I’m a great fan of the Just Cause games. The first one blew me away, really showing of what would become the future of sandbox gaming. The second game raised the bar when it comes to physics simulation and player-driven activities in video games. With a loose plot, but hundreds of activities and potential for mayhem,Just Cause 2 is a game that I’ve found myself returning to time after time over the last five years. Star Wars Battlefront: this is the game you’ve been looking for

This week kicks of what is likely to be a whole season of Star Wars. With the new film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens in cinemas next month, the release of EA’s Star Wars Battlefront on 19 November is perfect timing.

The new-gen reboot of Star Wars Battlefront features photo-real environments from the movies, allowing players to visit the ice planet Hoth, Tatooine, the forest moon of Endor, as well as new locations such as Sullust and even a first look at Jakku from The Force Awakens. Fallout 4 PC review

Bethesda’s summer tent-pole game has arrived giving PS4, Xbox One and PC explorers the chance to leave vault 111 and wander through a new-gen post-apocalyptic world of Fallout 4.

As one of the year’s most awaited games, expectations are high for the sequel to 2008’s Fallout 3 and the contracted-out 2010 spin-off, Fallout: New Vegas. I’ve been playing the game on PC for over week and I feel I’ve barely scratched the surface. Continue reading Fallout 4 PC review

Tech review: Lexar JumpDrive M20i and JumpDrive M20c

Always in need of faster and larger portable storage solutions, I put Lexar’s next-generation of flash drives, the JumpDrive M20i and the JumpDrive M20c, through their paces.

The old adage that you can never have too much storage space has never been more true. As our internet speed and computing power increase, we don’t blink when downloading, creating and moving huge files.

The need for a fast convenient way to take these files with us means that the days of burning CDs, DVDs and even Blu-Rays are now, thankfully, a thing of the past thanks to modern flash drive technology. Continue reading Tech review: Lexar JumpDrive M20i and JumpDrive M20c

Rise of the Tomb Raider Xbox One review

Lara Croft is back for a new adventure, but this time an adventure that, for the moment anyway, can only be played by Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners.

Rise of the Tomb Raider follows on from 2013’s very successful Tomb Raider reboot and is set a year after Lara Croft’s escape from the mysterious island of Yamatai. This new adventure has a young, but slightly more seasoned Lara embark on an adventure to clear her father’s name. Continue reading Rise of the Tomb Raider Xbox One review
