NBA Live 16 PlayStation 4 review

The last of EA Sports’ 2016 season titles is now on court. NBA Live 16, still living in the shadow of this year’s 2K’s basketball entry, does it’s best to round off EA’s stunning collection of games aimed at the discerning armchair sportsman.

Of all the real-life sports that EA digitally mimics each year, basketball is the one that I have the most trouble with. As a sport, for me, it lacks the intensity of gridiron, the tactics of football and the all-out action of ice hockey. It’s also been years since I last played an NBA Live game. PAX Australia 2015

My apologies for the late write-up, but it’s taken me the best part of a week to recover from what was, without a doubt, the highlight of my gaming calendar, PAX Australia 2015.

Over three days, from 30st October to 1nd of November, an eclectic band of gamers from all over the world descended on the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre for an all-encompassing festival of gaming. From upcoming Triple-A titles like Fallout 4 and indie hits Like Ascent: The Space Game, through to Dungeon & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, PAX Australia 2015 celebrated gaming across all its forms. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection PlayStation 4 review

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t suffering from a bit of remaster fatigue. For the last couple of years this generation of consoles has been inundated with polished-up, re-hashed games carried over from the Xbox 360 and PS3. Some, like Grand Theft Auto V and The Last of Us have been welcome, others like Saints Row IV and the Prototype games, not so much.

Fortunately, we have another very welcome remastered package in Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. Continue reading Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection PlayStation 4 review

Rock Band 4 PlayStation 4 review

The second coming of the rhythm music game is upon us and first on stage is Mad Catz and Harmonix Music Systems’ Rock Band 4.

This is software borne out of necessity over anything else. With a massive back catalogue of licenced music, over the last few years the die-hard Rock Band fans have been steadily replacing their PS3s and Xbox 360s with new-gen consoles. What must have been a steady revenue stream for Harmonix has, no doubt, been slowly drying up. Continue reading Rock Band 4 PlayStation 4 review

Sydney’s EB Expo 2015 breaks last year’s attendance record

From October 2nd to October 4th, Sydney Olympic Park played host to Australasia’s biggest gaming event, The EB Expo 2015. 36,750 gamers attended the show over the three days, an even bigger turn out than last year.

The Exhibition Centre was alive with sights and sounds that wouldn’t have looked out of place at the video-gaming Mecca that is E3 in Los Angles. Some of the booths, notably the huge Xbox booth, looked as if they’d been dragged across the Pacific from the LA show back in June.
