Why The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is probably going to blow you away

So there I sat, with the lovely animated intro to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt playing out in front of me, about to embark on the first three hours of CD Projekt RED’s RPG threequel.

The Witcher: Wild Hunt is one of the year’s most eagerly awaited games. Originally due for release in 2014, the game was initially delayed until February 2015, before being pushed back to 19 May.

Whilst I’d seen the game in action a few times, this three hour preview was to be my first time actually hands-on and in control of the witcher, Geralt of Rivia for his third outing. Continue reading Why The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is probably going to blow you away

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt hands-on preview

It’s been a long time coming, but I finally got some hands-on with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

For well over a year Polish developer CD Projekt RED have been teasing me with snippets from Geralt of Rivia’s next outing.

At E3 I saw the now famous griffin hunt demo during a special behind closed doors preview. At the Australian EB Expo I was treated to an expanded live demo of the same griffin sequence during a special theatre presentation. Continue reading The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt hands-on preview

Dying Light: horrifying for all the wrong reasons?

I love zombies. There’s something about them that has been scaring the pants of me since I first accidentally watched Zombie Flesh Eaters aged eleven.

Recently I’ve started be bothered by zombies for an entirely different reason, namely Techland’s Dying Light.

I first played Dying Light at Sydney’s EB Expo back in 2013. Being mindful that this was a few months before the release of the Xbox One, so I’d yet to really see what the “next-gen” was capable of. Dying Light looked good, even in this alpha stage. Continue reading Dying Light: horrifying for all the wrong reasons?

Homeworld Remastered Collection dated!

Over the weekend, during PAX South in San Antonio, Gearbox Software announced the 25th February release date for their Homeworld Remastered Collection for Windows PC.

Originally published by Sierra, Relic’s Homeworld games are critically acclaimed real-time strategy 3D space fleet combat games. Following the acquisition of the IP from the now defunct THQ, Borderlands developer, Gearbox have been working on bringing two of the greatest strategy games ever created to a new audience. Big changes for The Elder Scrolls Online

Bethesda have finally ended weeks of speculation on the future of their fantasy massively multiplayer online game, The Elder Scrolls Online.

Just after Christmas it was reported that several Australian retailers were pulling stock of the game and the prepaid subscription cards from their shelves. This was explained as being just routine stock rotation exercise, but didn’t stop the rumours that the game was going free-to-play. Continue reading Big changes for The Elder Scrolls Online

Forza Horizon 2: Storm Island DLC Xbox One review

Last year Forza Horizon 2 sucked me into its world and held my attention long past the point at which usually I abandon a game and move onto the next. In unleashing Turn 10’s sublime vehicle handling physics onto the open road, Sledgehammer Games provided me with a much more fulfilling experience than that of Forza 5’s constrained circuit racing.

With the release of Forza Horizon 2’s DLC expansion, Storm Island, I finally have just the reason that I needed to return to Microsoft’s Xbox One exclusive racer. Continue reading Forza Horizon 2: Storm Island DLC Xbox One review

Elite: Dangerous PC review

In the early 80s the original Elite was my first experience of an open world adventure. Gaming sandboxes may be something we take for granted now, but back then the idea that I could just do whatever I wanted in a game was a brand new and rather amazing concept.

I spent hours flying around trading goods and fending off attacking space pirates. Almost a decade later, Frontier: Elite 2 allowed me to explore the galaxy and land on planets. Continue reading Elite: Dangerous PC review
