Evolve PC review

2K’s four vs. one monster hunting game is now out in the wild. I’ve spent the last few weeks being the hunter and the hunted in Evolve.

Evolve’s developer, Turtle Rock, pretty much invented the concept of narrative-driven co-operative multiplayer game-play with Left 4 Dead. In pitting a group of four players in a drop-in/drop-out zombie apocalypse they created an immediately accessible game that pretty much forced players to work together in order to survive.

I’d love to say that Evolve did the same, in should, but success in the game very much depends on the calibre of your compatriots. Continue reading Evolve PC review

Saints Row IV: Re-elected and Gat out of Hell PS4 review

I’ve enjoyed revisiting some of the last-gen’s classic games on my PlayStation 4. The likes of Grand Theft Auto V, The Last of Us Remastered and Metro: Redux have blown me away with their ultra-polished visuals.

Well, now it’s Saints Row’s turn with Saints Row IV: Re-Elected and Gat out of Hell for Xbox One and PS4. Continue reading Saints Row IV: Re-elected and Gat out of Hell PS4 review

Why you should play The Order: 1886

Sony Computer Entertainment have been teasing us with The Order: 1886 since they first announced the PlayStation 4 way back in February 2013. Over the last two years the publisher has been drip-feeding scant details about their cinematic third-person shooter set in a steampunk re-imagining of Victorian London.

In the run up to the game’s launch Sony’s hype machine was working on overdrive. So much so that when word of a five hour campaign length, excessive quick-time-events and a couple of hours of cut scenes broke the internet went wild and skinned the game alive. Company of Heroes 2: Ardennes Assault PC review

When Company of Heroes publisher THQ went to the wall in 2012, the future of Relic’s sequel to their acclaimed 2006 WWII PC real-time strategy game seemed in doubt. Sega stepped in, themselves no strangers to the genre being publishers of the Total War games, and in June 2013 they released Company of Heroes 2.

Late last year Sega released Company of Heroes 2: Ardennes Assault, the first standalone expansion for the game. Continue reading Company of Heroes 2: Ardennes Assault PC review

Why Hardline will save the Battlefield franchise

In only a few short hours gamers will get to play the Battlefield Hardline beta for the last time before its release on March 20th.

It’s a game that’s been a long time coming. I first played it at E3, when that first beta was launched during the EA press event. It was OK, but I wasn’t sure about it hitting the October 2014 release date.

And nor was EA. Continue reading Why Hardline will save the Battlefield franchise

The Talos Principle PC review

As gamers we live in exciting times. As lucky as we are to be able to enjoy the latest iteration of Far Cry and Call of Duty we also, one in a while, get the opportunity to try something a little different, something like The Talos Principle.

Coming to us from Croteam, the Croation developer that gave us the insane Serious Sam, The Talos Principle is a rather clever first-person puzzle game that asks us to ponder what exactly it is to be a human being. Continue reading The Talos Principle PC review
